Stalactites, stalagmites and healing air
Discovered by chance in 1948 during the construction of the harbour, Damlataş Cave is famous for stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years and for its humid air at a constant temperature.
Damlataş Cave was discovered in 1948 while stone was being quarried for the construction of the harbour. Its name, "dripping stone", comes from the stalactites and stalagmites formed by water dripping from the ceiling over thousands of years.
Inside, the temperature stays at around 22-23 °C all year with very high humidity. The cave air is believed to help with respiratory conditions such as asthma, which has drawn visitors for decades.
The cave sits where Damlataş Beach meets Cleopatra Beach, right next to the cable car station, so it is easy to combine with a beach day.
